TFA President's Corner
I want to take a moment to let everyone know how excited I am to be your TFA President. I truly look forward to working with everyone and supporting Texas Firefighters. I want to thank West Carlisle Fire/EMS, the Panhandle Firemen’s and Fire Marshall’s District and my entire board for the support given during my time here on the Board.
I hope that all of you have had a great summer and as fall approaches, let’s all gear up and get ready for the Planning Conference. It is just around the corner. The TFA Executive Board and I have been working very hard to ensure you are represented well across the state.
Tim and I have been very busy on the home front. We have two great kids, Chris and his wife Amanda who have blessed us with our grandkids, Kutter, 2, and Knoxleigh, 8 months, keeps us very busy. Emily just turned 21 and is very busy working and looking at options for school. We are fortunate to have them live very close by and they get to visit often. As the saying goes “kids by appointment only, grandkids welcome anytime!”
District meetings are also coming up. Please make that effort to attend your district meeting. Important information is shared and great networking takes place. Ladies, I encourage you to find someone who has never attended a district meeting, visit with them and ask them to attend with you. This is a great opportunity for your district to gain new members and it may also be an opportunity to sign them up for the TFA membership. We are always open to new members and welcome each one with open arms.
The TFA Constitution and By-Laws number one purpose of our organization states:” To promote the interest and welfare of the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas”. Your TFA board is very excited about our work to build relationships across the state. It has been our vision this year, to increase membership, participation and focus on our goals as the Texas Firemen’s Auxiliary. The TFA, much like every organization, is in a constant state of change. As we move along, I want you all to be open about the idea of change. As an organization, if we never change then we never grow. In the past few years, we have grown significantly into social media, websites and other forms of electronic communication. Those processes seem to be working well and our message is being delivered. We now must come up with strategies for increasing membership and for being self-sufficient. We must find a way to generate income so that we may prosper even more and not depend on the SFFMA for funding. If you have suggestions, please get those to me or any other member of the Board. We want to hear ALL ideas. I am very excited to play a small part in this process and will pledge to you my dedication in promoting the SFFMA. We will be working hand-in-hand with the SFFMA Executive Board to promote the fire service of Texas.
In closing, again, thank you for your support. I will serve you to the best of my ability and again dedicate our work to the firefighters of this great state of Texas. See you in San Marcos!
