AT&T and the State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas announced a fundraising campaign benefiting
area volunteer fire departments affected by the March wildfires.
The company and association partnered for a “text-to-donate” campaign, which they will kick off Thursday morning
(4/20/2017) at an event at the State Capitol in Austin, a Monday news release said.
AT&T will announce a $20,000 donation to kick off the campaign, and State Sen. Kel Seliger and State Reps. Ken King
and Drew Springer are scheduled to speak.
In March, three wildfires scorched the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandle, killing four people in Texas and two in Oklahoma
and burning nearly 500,000 acres.
“The devastating fires also took a toll on our state’s volunteer fire departments, leaving them with depleted resources
from already tight budgets,” the news release said.
